Jack Kerouac (1922 – 1969) was an American novelist, poet and pioneer of the Beat Generation. His first published book was The Town and the City and he achieved widespread fame and notoriety with his second, On the Road, in 1957. As a icon of the Beat Generation he published 12 more novels and numerous poetry volumes including The Dharma Bums and Visions of Cody. Many of his literary works had a major impact on the popular rock music of the 1960s and remain highly collectable.
