Rare and Antique Books
More about us – Rare and Antique Books, originally established to sell off a substantial private collection of first edition antique books, now runs as a leading global online bookdealer. We specialise in scarce books, many of which are valuable first editions from select famous authors and collectable children’s authors. Our team are members of the Provincial Booksellers Fairs Association (PBFA) and the Independent Online Booksellers Association (IOBA), and we regularly sell all over the world. We have a currency converter on every listing page so it is easy and simple to identify the book price in sterling pounds, Euros or US dollars. By our nature, we are committed to a high professional standard of book selling. A considerable number of our books are signed and limited editions – ideal to add value to any book collection or to be given as an unusual christening gift, original birthday present or special Christmas gift.
Stocking all the most popular authors
We specialise in popular authors of older adult fiction including Lewis Carroll, H.G. Wells, Rudyard Kipling, Arthur Conan Doyle and Robert Louis Stevenson and modern first editions by the likes of J.R.R Tolkien, C. S. Lewis, A.A. Milne, Evelyn Waugh, Graham Greene and George Orwell. Furthermore we deal in highly collectable 007 James Bond novels by Ian Fleming, all of which are first editions and mostly in original non-price clipped, dust jackets.
Interested in Children’s books?
Rare and Antique Books deal with some of the most popular vintage children’s authors of the 19th and 20th century. Our collection has first editions by A. A. Milne, C. S. Lewis, Rudyard Kipling and Lewis Carroll (Charles Dodgson) and we have many first edition publications of the tales of Alice in Wonderland, Through The Looking Glass and The Chronicles of Narnia. In addition, a fine collection of books illustrated by Arthur Rackham, many of them signed, limited editions are available, plus first editions of the charming illustrated stories of Babar the Elephant by Jean de Brunhoff and the famous Golliwogg Tales of Florence K. Upton.
Other hardback books we sell are chosen because of their highly popular and collectable titles. Many of them have the added value of being made famous through the making of a film of the novel ( The Hobbit, The Wizard of Oz and Treasure Island).
What makes us special
We pride ourselves on selling our books at reasonable prices, studying the market rate and ensuring we are consistently below this level. Of course this is often subjective and we are happy to discuss pricing. Our promise is to be decent and honest, detailed and accurate, and our customer base trusts that we act in this way at all times. We are also trusted with international sales all over the world, always sent securely and safely. We have many very happy clients.
Rare and Antique Books are proud sponsors of the Living with Aphasia charity which supports people who have difficulty with language affecting their reading, writing and talking. Aphasia usually occurs after a stroke, head injury or tumor and about a third of those affected by a stroke have aphasia. As a business, we donate a percentage of our sales to the charity so the sale of every book raises vital funds for this cause. Registered charity in England and Wales (number 1171831)
