Waugh, Evelyn

Evelyn Waugh (1903–1966) is generally recognised as one of the leading English writers of prose in the 20th century. His highly successful works of satirical comic novels form the basis of his greatest works. Yet he also covered a range of topics including travel where he included fictional themes. His conversion to Catholicism inspired a number of interesting experiments with the biographical form. After the Second World War he wrote his most famous novel, “Brideshead Revisited“, and provided the material for his “Sword of Honour” trilogy. Other notable works include “Black Mischief”, “Scoop” and “Helena“.
