Scoop by Evelyn Waugh
A first state copy of the Scoop with “as” the last word on page 88. With a second state dust jacket. The novel is based on Waugh’s stint as a war correspondent for The Daily Mail in Abyssinia (now Ethiopia) in 1935. Waugh admitted that he had no aptitude for the reporting of war, but he did observe closely the activities of his fellow journalists. The resulting novel was a satirical, farcical book that takes lighthearted but steely aim at the journalistic profession and the newspaper industry.
Original red and black patterned boards with minimal signs of wear to the extremities. The contents are lightly browned and in clean condition. Clean end papers. Tight bindings. The dust jacket has the missing parts of the original spine and edges crudely repaired with paper sections. Chipping on the folds and edges. Rubbed covers. 8v0 308 pp
