The Movements and Habits essay was first published as a paper in the Journal of the Linnean Society in 1865. “Darwin’s interest in climbing plants was not that of a systematic botanist but an attempt to discover what adaptive value the habit of climbing has.” (DSB). The illustrations were drawn by the author’s son, George Darwin.
