A Child’s Garden of Verse by R. L. Stevenson: 1st edition, 2nd issue
A delightful smaller copy of verses by Stevenson and in very good condition. A Child’s Garden of Verses is a collection of sixty five children’s poems about darkness and solitude. The collection first appeared in 1885 and is without illustrations. This second issue is identical to the first edition save for the apotrophe lettering on the spine reads ” like a number 7″ and the word “of” is in smaller print. It contains 65 poems including the cherished classics “Foreign Children,” “The Lamplighter,” “The Land of Counterpane,” “Bed in Summer,” “My Shadow” and “The Swing.”
Original beveled blue covers with gilt lettering. Spine is rubbed and the edges are bumped. Previous owner’s signature on the front free page dated 1886. Half title page is half loose. Top edges bright gilt. Pages edges uncut. Contents are in clean condition. 4 1/2 x 6 1/2″ small 8vo. 101 printed pages.
