A fourth Hayman illustrated edition of The History and Adventures of Don Quixote in four volumes. Illustrated with twenty-eight new copper-plates, designed by Hayman, and elegantly engraved. Often regarded as the first ‘modern novel’, and one of the earliest and influential in Western literature. It blended satire, chivalric parody and profound insight into human nature. The book was first published in Spain two parts in 1605 and 1615.
Full calf boards, professionally re-spined. Gilt lettering on the spine labels. All volumes tightly bound, no loose pages. Good condition. Very good internally apart from the four pages lacking to Vol 1, and small section of loss to P.257/8 of Vol 1, affecting top 3 lines of text.
