A rare set of the two most famous of Defoe novels. First edition, Seventh printing of Vol 1. (1726) and first edition, fourth printing of Vol 2. (1722)

Vol 1. – The Life and Strange Surprizing Adventures of Robinson Crusoe in very good condition, complete with several illustrations.  A lovely and very early copy of one of the most celebrated novels of all time. Originally published 25th April 1719, Defoe received a mere £10 from the publishers. The second edition was published the following month, the third another month later. This seventh edition was published 1726. Full leather binding. Raised bands on the spine with bright gilt. Little wear to the boards. Clean contents. Bindings are tight. Octavo. 294pp. plus 2pp ads. 17cm x 10cm x 2cm.

Vol 2. – The Farther Adventures of Robinson Crusoe; being the Second and Last Part of his Life in good condition. Printed 1722 for W.Taylor at the Ship in Pater-Noster-Row, ‘The Fourth Edition, Adorned with Cuts’. Full leather binding, raised bands, with remnants of gilt edging and the number ‘2’ on spine. Very clean contents, light ageing and foxing. Six woodcut illustrations as called for. Wear to boards and spine with professional repairs to spine edge to front board and internal reinforcement to gutter with lignin-free tissue. Octavo. 264pp. 17cm x 10cm x 2.6cm
