A scarce find as the publishers felt this edition’s ending was too disturbing and consequently it was reprinted in 1912 with a happier ending. Original red cloth boards with black lettering and gilt stars. Stained and faded boards with wear to the edges. Missing the front free page and previous owner’s signature on front pastedown. The hinges are weak and split in places. Toned contents. A few tears and nicks within the book, including a 3cm tear on top of title page. 8vo 337pp.
