Books signed by the Russian Author, Alexei Tolstoi,(Tolstoy) are rare and this edition is in very good condition. After opposing the Bolshevik Revolution in 1917 Tolstoi was permitted to return to Russia by Stalin and adapted his writings to conform to the Communist party line. Tolstoi spent sixteen years studying for this uncompleted book which won the “Stalin Prize” in 1936. Original black cloth boards with lettering on the spine. Signed on the front free page. The unclipped dust jacket is bright with faded spine and edges. Mild chipping of the edges. 463pp 8vo .
