Verne, Jules

Jules Gabriel Verne (1828 – 1905) was a French author from Nantes whose writings laid much of the foundation of modern science fiction. His prolific literary output included more than 60 books, most notably the 54 novels comprising the Voyages Extraordinaires, as well as dozens of short stories, plays, and librettos. He is famed for his revolutionary science-fiction novels as A Journey to the Center of the Earth (1864),Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea (1870),  and Around the World in Eighty Days (1873) to name but a few. Although Verne died in 1905, his works continued to be published posthumously, and he became the second most translated author in the world.
