Helen Bannerman is best known for her children’s stories and images of little Indians and their culture. She was born in Edinburgh, Scotland and married a physician and officer in the Indian Medical Services. The couple moved to Madras, India and lived for thirty years there with their four children. Many of her books are about the Indians and lifestyle that she experienced during that time. Her most famous book is the Little Black Sambo which was released in the Dumpy series of children’s books.
