Edith Nesbit

Browse our books by the author and poet, Edith Nesbit (15 August 1858 – 4 May 1924). She wrote or collaborated on more than sixty books of fiction for children. She contributed to the development of children’s literature by writing adventure stories in the real world. This was a move away from the fantasy and secondary worlds of Lewis Carroll and Kenneth Grahame of the time. Some of her most recognised works include The Railway Children 1906, The Phoenix and the Carpet 1904 and The Story of the Treasure Seekers 1899. Nesbit was recognised as a political activist and wrote several books for adults too.
