Limited and Signed Edition of The Springtide of Life Poems of Childhood by Alergnon Charles Swinburne Illustrated by Arthur Rackham:

Original half-velum over illustrated gilt stamped ivory paper covered boards. The spine has gilt vignette and lettering in bright condition. Top edge of pages are gilt. Other sides of pages are uncut. Delightfully illustrated with 9 (incl. frontispiece) colour reproductions of drawings by Arthur Rackham as well as black and white reproductions of 58 line drawings. Colour plates are tipped-in on brown art paper, protected by captioned tissue guards. Frontispiece of this edition was not present in the trade edition. Decorative end papers with green floral design with some staining on front free pages at the front and rear of the book.  Cover stained and edges and corners lightly bumped but in good condition. Internally very clean and bindings are tight. 133 printed pages. 11 1/2 x 9 /2″.

The Springtide of Life contains Algernon Charles Swinburne’s enchanting verses for children and provides a wonderful backdrop for Rackham’s masterful illustrations. The rare edition has a preface by Edmund Gosse, an English author, poet and critic of the time. He once told Rackham that ‘this volume will not merely be the best book of the present art-season, but a joy to all sensitive people for years and years to come.’
