The Springtide of Life contains Algernon Charles Swinburne’s enchanting verses for children and provides a wonderful backdrop for Rackham’s masterful illustrations. With preface by the English author, poet and critic Edmund Gosse. Numbered 616 of 795, of which 100 are U.S.A and 15 for presentation. Illustrated with 9 colour reproductions of drawings by Arthur Rackham plus black and white reproductions of 58 line drawings. Incl. frontispiece. Frontispiece of this edition was not present in the trade edition.
Original half-velum over illustrated gilt stamped ivory paper covered boards. Spine has gilt vignette and lettering in bright condition. Top edge of pages gilt. Stained boards with edges and corners lightly bumped. Tipped-in colour plates on brown art paper, protected by captioned tissue guards. Decorative end papers with green floral design. Staining on front free pages at the front and rear of the book. 11 1/2 x 9 /2″.
