Queen Zixi of Ix or The Story of the Magic Cloak, by Frank L. Baum
Queen Zixi of Ix was originally serialized in an american magazine, St Nicholas, from November 1904 to October 1905. It proved to be popular and this first edition of the story was published later that year. The story continues the adventures in The Land of Oz. This edition is complete with the two colour illustrations of Frederick Richardson. He provided many delicate and charming illustrations for the series of Baum’s Wizard of Oz books. This copy is in a very presentable condition and a lovely find.
Original cloth boards with red and black lettering and images on the covers. Some wear on the edges, corners and frayed spine ends. Spine colours are faded. Gift inscription, dated Christmas 1905, on front free page. Two colour illustrations throughout the book. One plate is a loose on page 47. Contents have scattered foxing and soiling of the pages. The hinges are a little frail but the book holds together well. 4to 303pp.
