The provenance of the book from The West Horsley Place Collection, a manor house in Surrey, UK dating from 1425. The Prussian Officer contains twelve pieces previously published in various literary magazines. The stories are: “The Prussian Officer,” “The Thorn in the Flesh,” “Daughters of the Vicar,” “A Fragment of Stained Glass,” “The Shades of Spring,” “Second Best,” “The Shadow in the Rose Garden,” “Goose Fair,” “The White Stocking,” “A Sick Collier,” “The Christening,” and “Odour of Chrysanthemums.”

Original blue cloth boards with gilt lettering on the cover and spine. Light bumping on the spine. Bookplate on the front paste down Spotting on the front pages, title page and page ends. The title page is loose on the hinge. Clean contents. 8vo 810pp plus 22 publishers adverts at the end.
