Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats by T.S. Eliot
A lovely copy of this charming book of “cats described in rollicking verse …presented in a way that young and old will appreciate” (Manchester Guardian review at the time). Eliot wrote the poems of practical cats in the 1930’s to his godchildren under his assumed name “Old Possum”. He illustrated the cover leaving the contents as plain text. The poems proved to be very popular and were quickly re-published. This edition has an intact dust jacket apparently of war time economy quality. The original cover has remained in very good condition since publication.
Yellow cloth boards with red illustration by T. S. Eliot on the cover. Clean cover and edges. Dedication dated 1944 on the front free end page. The contents are in very good condition. The unclipped dust jacket priced 3s 6d is lightly browned on the spine with creases on the covers. The cat illustrations are bright and clean. There is a carefully repaired closed tear on the verso of the jacket. 8vo.45 printed pages
