The Passionate Friends by H. G. Wells
A good copy of one of H. G. Wells’s novels, The Passionate Friends. A novel memorable by it’s association to the notion of “open conspiracy” which was first discussed in this book. Well’s idea was of an “open conspiracy” of individuals to achieve a world state through an “open conspiracy against potentates and prejudices and all the separating powers of darkness”. Two films, directed by David Lean, have been made from the novel, one in 1923 and another in 1949.
Original green cloth with embossed design. Gilt titles to the spine and front cover. Wear to the edges. Some bumps to the lower edge of the book. Hinges good. Slight lean. 8vo 356 pp. 8 pages of advertisements at the end.
