A scarce first edition copy of Searchlight edition of The Lion and The Unicorn. Complete with dust jacket in very good condition. The Searchlight Books series was established early in 1941 by Secker & Warburg who planned to publish hard back books of essays edited by George Orwell and T. R. Fyvel. Unfortunately war bomb damage damaged the offices and, alongside war paper shortages, the series was forced out of print. Only ten of the planned seventeen titles were published during 1941-42. The book contains three parts, England Your England, Shopkeepers at War, The English Revolution.
Cream cloth boards with green lettering on the spine. Darkened spine and light rubbing. The contents are clean with some pages dog eared. Clean contents. The unclipped dust jacket is clean with browned spine and rear cover. Light chipping to the extremities. Repaired tear with tape on internal rear cover. Stain on the rear cover. 8vo 127 pp.
