The Game of Logic by Lewis Carroll

1st edition, 2nd state of The Game of Logic containing 350 problems, diagrams, symbols, counters and words. Carroll was unhappy with the first printing which was printed by Baxter at Oxford in 1886. He requested that it be completely re-printed by another printer, Clay, and the 500 Baxter copies be sent to America for sale. There are several changes to the official first edition, such as in the syllogisms, “New cakes are nice” replacing “Red apples are ripe” plus several altered diagrams. This copy is missing the envelope with the counters and card diagram that accompanies the book.

Issued in red cloth with gilt lettering on the front and spine. A small piece is missing from the spine. Marks on the front of the board. Lower edges are worn. Darkened spine colour. Diagram illustration is the tissue guarded front piece. Price marked Three Shillings for the book and Three Pence for the envelope. 8vo. 96 pp.
