Five Children and It by E. Nesbit
An illustrated Five Children and It by the author of The Treasure Seekers and The Wood- Be-Goods. The book was first produced as a series of stories published in the Strand Magazine in 1900 under the general title The Psammead, or the Gifts. The book forms the first volume in the trilogy with The Pheonix and the Carpet (1904) and The Story of the Amulet (1906). Five Children and It remains a classic children’s book today and has never been out of print since it was first published. The copy is in fair condition.
Original red cloth boards with bright gilt illustrations on the cover and spine. The spine has rubbed gilt lettering and darkened colour. Bright gilt top edge of the pages. The hinge of the book is frail and several of the illustrations pages are loose. The front free page is browned and has previous owner’s signature dated Dec 25th 1903. Several of the pages are chipped and some small tears.. 8vo 301
