A Child’s Garden of Verses is a collection of sixty five children’s poems about darkness and solitude. The collection first appeared in 1885 and is without illustrations. This second issue is identical to the first edition save for mention of ‘two series’ in the list of author’s books facing the half title page. It also has the apostrophe lettering on the spine “like a number 7” and the word “of” is in larger print. It contains 65 poems including the cherished classics “Foreign Children,” “The Lamplighter,” “The Land of Counterpane,” “Bed in Summer,” “My Shadow” and “The Swing.

Original bevelled blue covers with gilt lettering. Spine is slightly faded and the edges are a little worn. Previous owner’s signature on the front free page dated 1886. Half title page is half loose. Top edges bright gilt. Pages edges uncut. Contents are in clean condition. 4 1/2 x 6 1/2″ small 8vo. 101 printed pages.
