Cats Cradle is a collection of rhymes with colour illustrations. At the end of the nineteenth century, Louis Wain (1860-1939), an established English artist, depicted cats in all sorts of activities, from playing cricket to driving motor cars, skating, and playing musical instruments. H.G. Wells commented, “He invented a cat style, a cat society, a whole cat world. English cats that do not look like Louis Wain cats are ash of themselves“.
Black cloth boards with no lettering on the front or spine and not original covers. Edges are marked and spine ends a little worn. Black/grey front and back free pages. Dedication of previous owner on the front free verso. Frontis illustration with 5 cm tear on the bottom edge. The remainder of the contents are free from tears or scribbles. Bright colours of the cat illustrations. Some browning of the page edges. 7 x 10”
