This copy of Kipling’s Captains Courageous is in very good condition with bright gilt illustrations on the cover. It retells the adventure of the 15 year old, Harvey Cheyne Jr and the transition to manhood, Set against the backdrop of the fishermen off the Grand Banks of New Foundland. Originally serialised in the McClure’s Magazine from 1896. The copyright page denotes two dates, 1896 and 1897. The book was first serialized from December 1896 to 1897 so the date is the 2nd impression of the first edition. 22 black and white illustrations by I. W. Taber.
Original blue boards with bright gilt illustrations and lettering on the spine and cover. Spine ends are bumped. Slightly cocked edition. Tissue guarded frontis illustration. Clean end papers. Gilt page edges. Foxed pages especially at the front and rear. Otherwise contents are clean. 8vo 245 pp plus 2 pages of advertisements.
