The War of the Worlds by H G Wells: first edition, first impression
A lovely copy of the first edition, first impression, and rare first state of this classic novel, The War of the Worlds. The book includes the sixteen page list of advertisements dated 1897 and headed by New Letters of Napoleon I.
The book is in very good condition other than the minor points mentioned below. Original grey cloth with black lettering imprinted on the cover and spine. A publisher’s monogram is on the rear cover. The upper cloth covers are clean. The rear cover has a stain on the top edge and also near the monogram plus a minor splattering of white marks on the lower edge. The spine is slightly darkened with bumped edges. The corners are lightly bumped. Light shelfwear. The contents are very lightly toned with light spotting on some pages. The bindings are tight with minor splitting on page 96, 257 and 0.5 cm tear on the page edge of p257. Light fold on dedication page. 8vo 303 printed pages with 16 pages of catalogue of advertisements at the end of the book.
