The Golliwogg in Holland First Edition:
Hardback illustrated covers with blue cloth spine – edges and corners worn and beginning of a split on the rear cover. Missing illustrated front and rear free end pages. Title page loose. p 3 has lower 2″ missing and p 5 & 11, has internal corner missing. Many pages have tears (some a few inches long) and this is a tender copy. size: oblong 4to, 220 x 285 mm, 8½ x 11 inches. This copy of the Golliwogg in Holland remains a rather tender copy that has been well used but remains a collectable item.
This is one of thirteen illustrated Golliwogg books that the Upton mother and daughter wrote. Florence used one of her own dolls as an inspiration for the Golliwogg character and the doll is now held at the Museum of Childhood in Bethnal Green, London.
