Dark olive cloth hard boards with embossed lines on the covers with black text. Spine frayed on top and lower edges. No acorn above the publishers name on the spine. Cream end pages. Writing on the front rear of half title page ” followed by The Return of Tarzan“. Black and white full page illustration facing title page. Contents free from foxing and age browned with water stain on top edge on p 139-400. Binding has been neatly repaired. Binding also loose on p 345 with loose pages on p 23-26, 55 (which it torn on the edges). 8v0. 401 pages plus 6 pages of “Popular Copyright Novels” at the end of Tarzan of the Apes.
Burrough was one of the first writers to fully market and exploit his “product” of Tarzan. He produced sequels, movies and comic strips as a spin off from the original book. Tarzan was even registered as a trade mark and Burroughs created his own publishing and marketing company, E. R. B. in California. this copy of Tarzan of the Apes is a rare find of this early publication.
