The Spire by William Golding: first edition
A very bright copy of William Golding’s The Spire. Complete with dust jacket designed by the English painter and designer, John Piper. The novel deals with the construction of a 404 foot high spire loosely based on the spire of Salisbury Cathedral.
Original purple cloth boards with gilt lettering on the spine. The edition is slightly cocked. Slight rubbing of the edges. Dated signature of 4th June 1965 on the front free page. Light spotting on the front pages and contents are generally clean thereafter. There is a dark mark drawn on the bottom edges of the pages. The unclipped dust jacket is very bright and free from marks. The rear flap appears to have been trimmed by 5mm compared to the front flap. 8vo 223 printed pages.
