Puck of Pook’s Hill by Rudyard Kipling
Puck Of Pook’s Hill is a charming collection of fantasy short stories set in different periods of English history. The tales are told to two small children by a character called Puck. Kipling based this narrator on the character from William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night Dream. The copy is in good to v good condition with twenty black and white illustrations. Includes a bookplate of C. R. L. Fletcher who worked on several projects with Kipling. For example, Kipling wrote A River’s Tale as an introduction to Fletcher’s 1911 edition of A History of England.
Original red cloth boards with gilt lettering on the spine and a circular gilt elephant head illustration on the front board. The spine is faded and there is a faded section on the rear cover. Spine ends and edges are worn. Top edge of the book is gilt. Slight cocking. Bookplate on the front paste down. Spotted front and back end pages. The contents are clean and lightly browned. The hinges are tight. 306 pages plus 4 pages of advertisments. 8vo
