P R B, An Essay on the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood 1874-54 by Evelyn Waugh
A very good copy of this early essay by Evelyn Waugh with a preface by Waugh’s friend, Christopher Sykes, the art dealer and specialist in the Victorian period. Sykes comments of Waugh, “he was now a writer from this time henceforth had to be taken seriously”. The book is a rare and intriguing contribution to Pre-Raphaelite studies and a record of the first literary attempts of this now famous author. The essay is illustrated with little known portraits of Rossetti, Hunt and Millais, as well as some academic studies and light hearted sketches. It is printed on mould made paper and bound in full cloth. The essay was initially privately published in 1926 by his friend, Alistair Graham at the Shakespeare Head Press.
