Autographed limited edition of De Profundis by Oscar Wilde with an introduction by Vyvan Holland
This rare copy of De Profundis Being the first complete and accurate version of ‘Epistola: in Carcere et Vinculis’ is the last prose work in English of Oscar Wilde. Written whilst Wilde was in prison in 1897 and first published in 1905. The writing is of a long letter to Robert Ross which recounts his spiritual journey through his trails and spell in prison. This unique copy is signed by Wilde’s second son, Vyvyan Holland by Constance Lloyd. The family’s surname was changed to Holland after Wilde’s imprisonment. Holland (3 November 1886 – 10 October 1967), became a recognized British author and translator. This copy is a Limited de Luxe edition, numbered 137/195. It was released simultaneously with Methuen’s first edition of the volume. A very good condition book.
Original red leather bound boards with gilt lettering on the spine. The edges are lightly worn. Top edges of the pages are bright gilt. Marbled end papers with superficially split hinge. The contents are very clean. Smattering of spotting on the page ends. Bindings are tight. 8vo 148 printed pages.
