Captains Courageous, A Story of the Grand Banks, by Rudyard Kipling

Captians Courageous portrays the vivid life in the Gloucester fishing fleet of Massachusetts, written while the Kipling family were living in the United States. Though Kipling lived in Vermont for several years with his American wife this is his only novel with entirely American settings and characters. The book contains a bookplate of the Oxford English historian, Charles Robert Leslie Fetcher (22 October 1857 – 30 April 1934). His book, School History of England included 23 new poems by Rudyard Kipling. Illustrations within the book are provided by I.W. Tabor.

Blue cloth boards wilt lettering and gilt pictorial of two men and two boats on the cover. Gilt lettering and gilt pictorial of a man on the spine. Wear to the edges of the spine and extremities of the book. Black endpapers with C. R. L. Fletcher on the front paste down. All page edges are gilt. The contents are generally clean. 245 pages with frontis and  21 illustrations plus 3 pages advertisements. 8vo
