Black Mischief by Evelyn Waugh
Black Mischief is Waugh’s third novel and draws on his experiences in Africa. It is a typically controversial book with a reference to the then empire of Abyssinia, now Ethiopia, and the efforts of Waugh’s character, Basil Seal, to modernise the Empire. The source book for the 2003 film, Bright Young Things. Complete with dust jacket and in very presentable condition.
Red and black marbled boards with gilt lettering on the spine. Shelfwear on the extremities of the cover and on the rear cover. Pencil inscription of previous owner on the front free page. Very light foxing and few marks on some of the pages. Bindings are tight. A nice copy. The dust jacket has chipping on the spine ends with 1-2 cm of the both ends of the spine missing. 9cm lightly repaired tear down the rear edge of the spine. Wear to the folds of the cover with 3cm tears on 2 of the folds. . Tears on the top folds of the spine. The dust jacket is protected by a clear film cover. 20 x 13cm 303 pp.
